The Berliner Philharmoniker welcome the new season Simon Rattle conducts Rachmaninov and Stravinsky
They were contemporaries and fellow countrymen – and yet could not have been more different: Igor Stravinsky, who took the world by storm with his stunning ballets, and the phlegmatic Sergei Rachmaninov, who many regarded as “the last of the Romantics”. With this concert of Stravinsky’s Firebird and Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, Sir Simon Rattle opened the Berliner Philharmoniker’s 2014/2015 season.
