The concept that underlies Christian Thielemann’s concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker is a captivating one. The conductor wanted to juxtapose two works which go well together – while remaining in contrast to each other. And so here we have an evening of late Romantic music, in which the elegant, bright Oboe Concerto by Richard Strauss – with Albrecht Meyer as the soloist – stands alongside Anton Bruckner’s voluminous “Romantic” Symphony.
