Simon Rattle conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9

It’s a moving moment in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and in the history of music overall: when the instruments audibly struggle for the right expression in the Finale, fail – and the jubilant singing of human voices is needed to convey Beethoven’s marvellous vision of a humane, joyful world. With this concert, Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker wrap up their interpretation of all the Beethoven symphonies.
