Albrecht Mayer in conversation with Philipp Bohnen (14 min.)
Albrecht Mayer took over the position of principal oboe with the Philharmoniker in 1992 during the era of Claudio Abbado. Many of the oboist’s recordings have won international awards. In the Philharmoniker’s chamber music project “Beethoven in close-up”, the musician was involved, among other things, as a performer of trios for the unusual instrumentation of two oboes and cor anglais. In conversation with Philipp Bohnen, Mayer – for whom the works of Beethoven, Bach and Mozart remain unsurpassed in music history – talks about the technical difficulties of playing these compositions, Beethoven’s personality, and the relevance of key signatures.
