“It’s very important not only to show the connections within music history. It’s just as important to play music that isn’t played much but deserves to be played. As performers, we have a huge responsibility to the composers of our time.” This is the artistic credo of conductor Hannu Lintu, who the [Washington Post] described as having an extraordinary “feeling for instrumental colours and combinations”. The Finnish musician, who studied under Jorma Panula among others, has long been one of the most sought-after international opera and concert conductors. For his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker, he has selected music by Igor Stravinsky and Olivier Messiaen alongside works from his homeland by Kaija Saariaho and Jean Sibelius.
