柏林夏隆室内乐团

The Scharoun Ensemble Berlin owes its existence to Franz Schubert’s Octet. To perform this work, members of the Berliner Philharmoniker founded the ensemble in 1983, naming it after Hans Scharoun, the architect of the Philharmonie. Today, thanks to its special timbre, in which strings and wind instruments merge into a perfectly balanced overall sound, the Scharoun Ensemble is one of the most successful chamber music groups in the world. Since 2005, it has curated the Zermatt Festival, which it founded.
The Scharoun Ensemble sees itself as a flexible group, both in terms of its line-up – the classical octet formation is reduced or expanded as required – and its repertoire. Two core works are Schubert’s Octet and Beethoven’s Septet, and it also includes numerous compositions from the Baroque period to the present day. The ensemble members particularly enjoy working with the great composers of our time, which is why new music plays such a significant role in the Scharoun Ensemble’s concerts. Among other works, it has commissioned and premiered pieces by Hans Werner Henze, Pierre Boulez, Wolfgang Rihm and Jörg Widmann.
