“As a child,” says Anoushka Shankar, “I learned the classical Indian style from my father. So, for a long time I was a very classical sitar player. But in recent years I’ve been doing more and more crossover projects. I find that very appealing. You only develop further if you venture beyond familiar paths.”

Anoushka Shankar, daughter of the Indian music legend Ravi Shankar, gave her first public concert in New Delhi at the age of 13. She has performed her father’s concertos with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig. In addition, the musician, who made her Philharmoniker debut in 2017, appears at the most prestigious concert halls all over the world (Carnegie Hall New York, Barbican Centre London, Wiener Konzerthaus, Paris Salle Pleyel, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern). Anoushka Shankar has also performed with artists such as Sting, Herbie Hancock, Karsh Kale, the flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela and the Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. An advocate of intercultural dialogue and women’s rights in India, she has been honoured with numerous prestigious awards. She received the House of Commons Shield award from the British Parliament.
