Cameron Carpenter is considered a pop star among organists. This is also because he is redefining his instrument’s repertoire: “I want to show that the organ doesn’t just belong in churches.” Born in Pennsylvania in 1981, this remarkable musician exploits the organ’s full range of colours and power – moving his toes and heels across the pedals with artistic ease while his hands fly across the manuals at breakneck speed. After his Philharmoniker debut in 2010, Carpenter has been a regular performer at organ matinees at the Philharmonie Berlin.
