Wilhelm Furtwängler: The Radio Recordings 1939–1945

The radio recordings of the Berliner Philharmoniker with Wilhelm Furtwängler, made between 1939 and 1945, are among the most striking recordings of classical music in existence. Recorded at the height of the collaboration between the orchestra and its conductor, Furtwängler’s artistic personality comes across here more vividly than anywhere else. This is music-making in which inspiration and expressive power seem to know no bounds, and in which, not least, the existential experience of the Second World War continues to resonate. Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings was the first to release a complete edition of these recordings.
