Whether as a ringtone, in hotel lobbies or in adverts, Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons has become a fixture of everyday life today in a way that the composer could never have imagined 300 years ago. Yet, it would be a great pity if, given their enormous popularity, we were to overlook what innovative testaments to Baroque ingenuity these violin concertos are.
