Petr Popelka
Conductor
At the age of 24, Petr Popelka became deputy principal double bass of the Staatskapelle Dresden. After ten years, he gave up the coveted position to become a conductor – a desire that developed in the versatile musician at the same time as composing. What followed was a stellar career, which Popelka also attributed to the fact that he knew from the inside how an orchestra “ticks”. To this day, the Czech conductor continues to find the right words and gestures to realise his own musical ideas – not only as head of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Wiener Symphoniker, but also as a guest of leading international orchestras.
