괴츠 토이치의 루트비히 크반트 인터뷰 (14 분)

Although Richard Strauss did not write a real cello concerto, his tone poem Don Quixote is almost one in disguise, as the tragicomic main character in this work is mainly portrayed by the cello. In a Berliner Philharmoniker concert in 2011, Ludwig Quandt, the orchestra’s first principal cellist, was the soloist and excelled in both the quirky and highly virtuosic passages and in the touching closing melody which is among the most beautiful that Strauss composed. In this interval feature with the cellist Götz Teutsch, who was a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker from 1970 to 2006, Quandt talks about Strauss’ composition and the question of how each of us has something of a Don Quixote in them.
