Ion Marin
conductor
From 1987 to 1991, Ion Marin was assistant to Claudio Abbado at Vienna State Opera, where he also had the opportunity to work with Herbert von Karajan and Carlos Kleiber. Today, the Romanian-born conductor, who moved to Vienna in 1986 in protest against the dictatorship of the time, is a regular guest at major international opera houses and has conducted virtually all of Europe’s leading orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 2012, he founded Cantus Mundi and Symphonia Mundi, two projects aimed at improving the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Romania.
