Carolin Widmann

violin

Carolin Widmann is regarded as one of the most uncompromising violinists of her generation – as someone who wanted to make a career in contemporary music, which she has done very successfully. She has worked with leading figures such as György Kurtág, George Benjamin and Salvatore Sciarrino. Of course, she also plays the Classical-Romantic concertos alongside the many works composed especially for her: “You can only understand the old if you understand the new and vice versa. It’s like having a sense of history: I can only understand today through yesterday.” Her immense versatility extends to performances of ensemble works on historical instruments, which she leads from the violin. In 2018, she made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker with Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Violin Concerto.
