Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla made history becoming chief conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at the age of 29, following in the footsteps of famous predecessors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Sakari Oramo and Andris Nelsons. Known for her sensitive conducting style, the Lithuanian was awarded the highly endowed Würth Prize by Jeunesses Musicales Germany in 2024 – for her ability to take the audience on an “empathetic musical journey of discovery”. According to the jury, the artist had also rendered outstanding services to the promotion of young musical talent. Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla appears as a guest at leading opera houses and with renowned orchestras. For her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker, she has created a unique programme with works by Mieczysław Weinberg, Sergei Prokofiev and film music legend John Williams.
