Dreaming of the Waldbühne: The Berliner Philharmoniker in Kawaguchiko
The annual season finale given by the Berliner Philharmoniker at the impressive open-air venue the Waldbühne has become a tradition since it began in 1984. In Japan, which has been a kind of second home for the orchestra since the Karajan era, concert broadcasts are followed – to some surprise – by the relaxed atmosphere of the Waldbühne and the whistling of Paul Lincke’s Berliner Luft, which is always presented as an encore. In 2025, a dream came true for around 3000 Philharmoniker fans in Kawaguchiko: a concert by the orchestra in a modern open-air theatre with a view of Mount Fuji! Our film reports on this moving guest performance.
