Gidon Kremer in conversation with Walter Küssner (10 min.)
The violinist Gidon Kremer is one of the great musicians of our time. He returned to the Berliner Philharmoniker in December 2016 after an absence of almost ten years, and in doing so, also celebrated his 40th anniversary as a soloist with the orchestra (plus his first appearance in the Digital Concert Hall). Under the direction of Christian Thielemann, he performed Sofia Gubaidulina’s Violin Concerto In tempus praesens. A telling choice of programme: not only has Kremer championed the Russian composer for decades, he has also been a tireless supporter of contemporary music since the beginning of his career. Kremer talks here with violist Walter Küssner, member of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 1989, about the work’s unusual conception of time, as well as the individual nature of each performance.
