Yannick Nézet-Séguin in conversation with Albrecht Mayer (17 min.)
The Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin has been a regular guest of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2010. In February 2018, works by Ravel, Debussy and Prokofiev were on the programme at the Philharmonie before they embarked on a tour together to the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Poland and France. In this interval feature with the Philharmoniker’s principal oboe Albrecht Mayer, Nézet-Séguin explains why he has gladly renounced the baton and developed increasingly reduced gestures over the years, and what particularly fascinates him about the main works of the concert, Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony and Debussy’s La Mer. He also talks about the growing trust in his work together with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
