Yannick Nézet-Séguin in conversation with Emmanuel Pahud (13 min.)
In this interview, conducted in French, the Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin talks about Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach’s cantata “Heilig” and Johannes Brahms’s famous Deutsches Requiem – two works that he performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker in October 2017. Nézet-Séguin tells of his special relationship with the orchestra, Brahms’s profound knowledge of Early music, the complicated relationship between biography and the creative process, and his ideal of collaborative music making which could contribute to human understanding in times of political polarisation. He also expresses how much he is looking forward to a joint tour with the Philharmoniker in the 2018/2019 season. His conversation partner is Emmanuel Pahud, one of the orchestra’s two principal flautists.
