Yannick Nézet-Séguin in conversation with Sarah Willis (14 min.)
In concerts at the Philharmonie, the Berlin Waldbühne and on a subsequent tour, the Berliner Philharmoniker performed three programmes under the baton of Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin in the summer of 2016. Here, the artist speaks with horn player Sarah Willis about Shostakovich’s 13th Symphony and Bartók’s sombre First Violin Concerto, inspired by an unhappy love affair of the Hungarian composer. Nézet-Séguin’s appointment as music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York from 2020 was announced before this concert. But despite his many commitments in North America, where the conductor also holds musical director positions in Montreal and Philadelphia, Nézet-Séguin promises to return regularly to the Berliner Philharmoniker in the future.
