Sir Simon Rattle, Andrew Staples and Stefan Dohr in conversation (14 min.)
In his Serenade op. 31, which is characterised by nocturnal imagery, Benjamin Britten combines the sound of strings with a tenor voice and a horn. Tenor Andrew Staples was featured alongside the orchestra’s principal horn Stefan Dohr in a Berliner Philharmoniker concert in May 2021. The singer had previously appeared with the orchestra in works by Bach, Mozart, Berlioz and Schumann. With Sir Simon Rattle, who conducted the concert, the musicians discuss the special appeal of Britten’s composition.
