Mariss Jansons conversa con Raphael Haeger (18 min)
Mariss Jansons first performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1971 as the winner of the Herbert von Karajan Conducting Competition, followed five years later by his official debut. Since then, the Latvian musician has become one of the orchestra’s closest artistic partners. The Philharmoniker expressed their appreciation by appointing Jansons an honorary member in January 2018, shortly after his 75th birthday. The programme of their subsequent concert together included Bruckner’s Sixth Symphony. In this interview with percussionist and orchestra member Raphael Haeger, the conductor explains why he waited so long for his first performance of Bruckner with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Further topics of this interval feature are Janson’s feelings about his award and the unrelenting search for the meaning of musical masterpieces.
