Wenzel Fuchs conversa con Daishin Kashimoto (18 min)

In April 2018, Wenzel Fuchs was the soloist in Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the Berliner Philharmoniker, which he become a member of almost 25 years earlier. The musical direction of the performance was in the hands of American conductor Alan Gilbert, who is also a personal friend of Fuchs. Although the Philharmoniker’s principal clarinetist had of course already played Mozart’s last instrumental concerto many times, Fuchs explains in this conversation with his colleague, the Philharmoniker’s 1st concertmaster Daishin Kashimoto, how challenging the work still remains and how little one can “hide” as a musician with Mozart. Further topics of conversation include the special atmosphere and acoustics of the Philharmonie, and the special appeal of performing as a soloist with one’s own orchestra.
