Claudio Abbado: The Last Concert
Claudio Abbado was one of the outstanding figures in the history of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He made his debut here in 1966 and was chief conductor from 1990 to 2002. In May 2013, this unique partnership ended with his final concert with the orchestra – a “triumph” according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The programme featured two of the most important works of the Romantic period: Berlioz’s visionary Symphonie fantastique and Mendelssohn’s ethereal and magical music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
