Greeting the new season (8 min.)
In the traditional welcome video to the Berliner Philharmoniker’s new season, Sir Simon Rattle and members of the orchestra talk about the highlights of the coming year. Of course, there is considerable excitement about one particular key project of the season: the cycle of the complete symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven which the chief conductor and his orchestra will perform in Berlin and in four other cities around the world. But the many French works, Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in Baden-Baden and Berlin, as well as outstanding guest conductors are also eagerly looked forward to. In addition, the orchestra has appointed a director as Artist in Residence for the first time, the American Peter Sellars.
