Michael Sanderling

Conductor

Michael Sanderling is one of the few orchestral musicians to have changed sides with lasting success: he became principal cellist of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig at the age of 20 and subsequently held the same position with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin. In 2000, he made his first successful appearance as a conductor with the Kammerorchester Berlin, which marked the beginning of his second career. Sanderling, who conducted the Berliner Philharmoniker for the first time in 2019, made his mark for many years as chief conductor of the Dresdner Philharmonie and the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester. The Berlin-born conductor has appeared as a guest conductor with leading orchestras worldwide.
