Georg Friedrich Haas

composer

The sensory appeal of multifaceted sound and experimentation with overtone harmonies are central components in the often microtonal works of Georg Friedrich Haas. The Austrian composer has always considered the twelve-tone tempered system to be restrictive, which is why his works deliberately deviate from familiar auditory coordinates. In pieces such as in vain and dark dreams, he created fascinating counter-designs to the tempered tuning system, in which magical soundscapes emerge that one often finds hard to believe were created without electronic means.
