Season opening 2022: Kirill Petrenko conducts Mahler’s Seventh Symphony
Kirill Petrenko interpreted Mahler with the Berliner Philharmoniker for the first time in 2020, conducting the Sixth Symphony. Critics and audience were thrilled by the “virtually flawless precision” (The New York Times). Now he opens the 2022/23 season with the Seventh. Mahler thought it was his “best work and preponderantly cheerful in character”. But dark colours predominate over long stretches, and doubt is combined with joy in the finale. 30 minutes before the concert begins, there is a special accompanying programme.
