Season opening 2022: Kirill Petrenko conducts Mahler’s Seventh Symphony
Matthew Hunter and the guitar in Gustav Mahler’s Seventh Symphony
It has become a nice tradition with the Berliner Philharmoniker: the guitar part in Mahler’s Seventh Symphony is played by one of the orchestra’s string players. In the case of the 2022 season opening concert under the baton of Kirill Petrenko, violist Matthew Hunter took on the double role. Here he tells us how it came about and what he loves about the guitar.
