Claudio Abbado conducts Mahler’s Seventh Symphony
Claudio Abbado had no airs and graces and believed in collaborating on an equal footing. His words upon taking office as chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker became legendary: “I am Claudio – to everyone”. Gustav Mahler’s symphonies played a central role for him from the very beginning. Abbado’s special flair for this music was evident not least in his handling of the less popular Seventh, with which he delighted audiences here.
