2026 season opening concert: Kirill Petrenko conducts Elgar and Tchaikovsky
Kirill Petrenko opens the new season with lush and opulent works. However, beneath the luminous surface lie mysterious messages: Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations not only explore a deeply emotional theme, they also portray – in musical code – the composer’s friends and family members. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, on the other hand, imbues his Fourth Symphony with a “fate motif” – as a symbol of his own personal crisis.
