Bernard Haitink and Leif Ove Andsnes about making music in the name of Fukushima (17 min.)
In March 2011, a Berliner Philharmoniker concert marked the terrible events after the tsunami in Fukushima. The orchestra, conductor Bernard Haitink and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes dedicated the evening to the victims in Japan. In their memory, the musicians performed Witold Lutosławski’s Funeral Music for string orchestra as part of the programme, which also included Lutosławski’s Symphony No. 4 and Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto. In our interval feature, Bernard Haitink and Leif Ove Andsnes are interviewed by Fergus McWilliam, horn player with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
