Baiba Skride in conversation with Philipp Bohnen (12 min.)
The Latvian violinist Baiba Skride made a successful debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2010 with Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto. Her compatriot Andris Nelsons, who was also celebrating his debut with the orchestra at that time, was on the podium when the violinist returned to Berlin in October 2015. On that night, the programme included another 20th century masterpiece: Dmitri Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto. Here, the virtuoso talks to violinist Philipp Bohnen, a member of the orchestra since 2007, about the wonderful collaboration with Nelsons and the Philharmoniker, and about her first encounter with Shostakovich’s composition.
