Seiji Ozawa becomes honorary member of the Berliner Philharmoniker (8 min.)

In a concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker in the spring of 2016, Seiji Ozawa made his first appearance outside his Japanese homeland since recovering from a serious illness. The Philharmoniker took the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their work together to appoint Ozawa an honorary member. In a speech, the cellist and orchestra board member Knut Weber traced the joint history of the conductor and orchestra, and after the formal presentation of his honorary membership, a Japanese Polka performed by horn player Klaus Wallendorf brought this moving tribute to a cheerful conclusion.
