Winrich Hopp in conversation with Helge Grünewald (16 min.)

Since Winrich Hopp was appointed artistic director of Musikfest Berlin in 2006, he has created programmes which have fascinated audiences with their unusual perspectives and dramaturgical coherence. In this interview with musicologist Helge Grünewald, he introduces the 2011 festival which featured the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth, Wolfgang Rihm, and two monumental compositions of the 20th century – namely Gustav Mahler’s Eighth Symphony and Luigi Nono’s Prometeo. Another topic of conversation is the concert of the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Andris Nelsons with works by Richard Strauss, Heinrich Kaminski, Wolfgang Rihm and Hans Pfitzner.
