Mariss Jansons named honorary member of the Berliner Philharmoniker (12 min.)

The value of an honour is tied not least to how rarely it is awarded: After Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Seiji Ozawa, Mariss Jansons was made the fifth honorary member of the Berliner Philharmoniker in January 2018. Since his debut in 1976, Jansons has conducted the Berliner Philharmoniker in more than 90 concerts, mostly in the Berlin Philharmonie, but also at guest appearances elsewhere. Jansons received the award during rehearsals for a performance of Anton Bruckner’s Sixth Symphony and expressed his thanks with a moving retrospective of their joint artistic work.

The concert
