Tugan Sokhiev in conversation with Amihai Grosz (13 min.)

Since his debut in 2010, the Russian conductor Tugan Sokhiev has appeared with the Berliner Philharmoniker on a regular basis. One such programme in May 2018 featured (two very different but at the same time central works of the Russian repertoire): Sergei Prokofiev’s witty and streamlined Classical Symphony, inspired by Haydn, plus the sonic splendour of Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. The concert also included Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto with Yefim Bronfman as the soloist. In this interview, Tugan Sokhiev talks to the orchestra’s first principal viola, Amihai Grosz, about the programme selection, working together with the Berliner Philharmoniker, eastern and western music traditions and his duties as music director of the Bolshoi in Moscow.
