Herbert Blomstedt in conversation with Stephan Schulze (19 min.)

Since his debut in 1976, Herbert Blomstedt has appeared on numerous occasions with the Berliner Philharmoniker, with his acclaimed interpretations of Bruckner’s symphonies among the highlights. In a series of concerts in May 2019, the conductor performed the Second Symphony of his Swedish compatriot Wilhelm Stenhammar, a work the orchestra had never played before. Topics of this conversation with violinist and orchestra member Stephan Schulze include Stenhammar, who appeared several times with the Philharmoniker as a young piano virtuoso, and the long career of Blomstedt, who gained creative impetus in his early years from the legendary conductors Leonard Bernstein and Igor Markevitch.
