Anna Thorvaldsdóttir on her work Catamorphosis (5 min.)
In February 2021, the Berliner Philharmoniker gave the world premiere of Anna Thorvaldsdóttir’s composition Catamorphosis under the baton of chief conductor Kirill Petrenko. The orchestra had already presented Metacosmos, another work by the Icelandic composer, two years earlier. Thorvaldsdóttir, who trained in San Diego in California among other places, works particularly intensively with the New York Philharmonic and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. In this introduction to Catamorphosis, she talks about her fascination with the tonal possibilities of large orchestras and the inspiration she receives from observing nature.
