Yefim Bronfman in conversation with Hande Küden (14 min.)
Since his debut in 1983, pianist Yefim Bronfman has given numerous performances together with the Berliner Philharmoniker, including works by Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Liszt and Beethoven. At the opening of the 2012/13 season, he performed Johannes Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto under the baton of the then chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle. The composer’s First Piano Concerto followed in April 2021. In an interview with Philharmoniker violinist Hande Küden, Bronfman explains the complicated genesis of the work, which he sees as a “symphony with piano”. The pianist also tells how he motivates himself in these pandemic times marked by cancelled concerts, difficult travel conditions and concerts without an audience.
