Mikko Franck conversa con Matthew Hunter (18 min)

In January 2018, Mikko Franck gave an impressive performance of Maurice Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges together with the Berliner Philharmoniker. It was a stroke of luck that scarcely six months later, the Finnish conductor was available to stand in at short notice for Sir Simon Rattle who had to cancel his participation in the performance of Robert Schumann’s beautiful but rarely played oratorio Paradise and the Peri. In conversation with viola player Matthew Hunter, a member of the Philharmoniker since 1996, Franck tells of his earliest experiences as a conductor, of the balance between urban and rural life, the natural landscapes of his native Finland and the principles that guide him in his musical work.
