Le tempérament combatif de Ludwig van Beethoven se manifeste avec panache dans son Concerto pour piano n° 5. Mitsuko Uchida et Simon Rattle présentent ici ce flamboyant témoignage de joyeuse rébellion qui n’a toujours rien perdu de sa verdeur. La Symphonie n° 4 de Jean Sibelius est en revanche une œuvre austère et dépouillée ; à sa création, le public fut tellement choqué par sa rigueur ascétique que personne n’osa applaudir.
