Wiebke Lehmkuhl

contralto

Although Wiebke Lehmkuhl grew up listening mainly to Baroque music, her repertoire ranges from Mozart, Beethoven and Romantic oratorios to Mahler. She is one of “the very few singers who perform Wagner and Bach with stylistic precision at a world-class level” (Die Welt). Lehmkuhl performs regularly with leading international orchestras and, with her rich alto voice, also enjoys great success on the opera stage – most notably in her signature role as Erda in Wagner’s Rheingold and Siegfried. The Oldenburg-born singer made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2013 in Robert Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust. Since then she has been a regular guest with the orchestra.
