Peter Eötvös in conversation with Sarah Willis (20 min.)

In previous centuries it was quite natural that a conductor would sometimes perform his own compositions, and vice versa: that a composer would be responsible for conducting the premieres of his own works. There is now a division of labour between musicians who compose and conduct, but this division is occasionally broken by musicians such as Peter Eötvös who is talented in both areas. Eötvös has conducted the premiere of his Cello Concerto Grosso at the Philharmonie in Berlin in June 2011. Our interval feature gives you the opportunity to become better acquainted with this evening’s conductor.
