Semyon Bychkov in conversation with Madeleine Carruzzo (18 min.)

The conductor Semyon Bychkov has been invited to work with the Berliner Philharmoniker on a regular basis. In his interview with violinist Madeleine Carruzzo, Bychkov tells of memories of his Russian homeland, which he left when he was 22. In addition, the conductor talks about his affinity with Shostakovich, explains the historical context of his Eleventh Symphony and elucidates why the alternation between major and minor at the end of the work has political significance.
