Frank Peter Zimmermann in conversation with Rüdiger Liebermann (7 min.)
Over the years, Frank Peter Zimmermann has performed almost all of the major violin concertos with the Berliner Philharmoniker, and in the Digital Concert Hall alone you can find the musician playing works by Mozart, Brahms, Hindemith and Martinů. When, in May 2015, the violinist performed Shostakovich’s Second Violin Concerto in a programme conducted by Mariss Jansons, he could already look back on a 30-year-long association with the orchestra. When Zimmermann made his debut in Berlin, Rüdiger Liebermann was already a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In this interview, the two violinists talk about their many years of making music together. Zimmermann also talks of his great admiration for David Oistrakh, the dedicatee of Shostakovich’s concerto, and why he nevertheless chooses not to follow some of the great Russian virtuoso’s interpretive decisions.
