Magnus Lindberg in conversation with Frank Peter Zimmermann (14 min.)
Since his debut in 1985, Frank Peter Zimmermann has been one of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s closest artistic partners. In early 2016, the violinist made a guest appearance with the orchestra with a new piece – and with a new instrument: the Stradivarius “General Duport” which had just recently been given to him on loan. Zimmermann gave the German premiere of Magnus Lindberg’s Second Violin Concerto, which the composer dedicated to him. In this interview, Zimmermann talks to the Swedish composer about how he had wanted to work together with him for over 20 years, and about the joy of virtuosity and melody which have now found their place again in contemporary solo concertos.
