Sir Simon Rattle and Simon Halsey talk about Stravinsky and Rachmaninov (15 min.)
Both works were composed in 1913: Stravinsky’s ballet music Le Sacre du printemps and Rachmaninoff’s tone poem The Bells. And yet they convey completely different sound and intellectual worlds. In November 2012 the Berliner Philharmoniker and Simon Rattle excitingly juxtaposed both works in a concert which also marked the first performance by the orchestra of The Bells. You can find out more background information about this concert in our interval talk with Sir Simon Rattle and Simon Halsey.
