Zubin Mehta in conversation with Noah Bendix-Balgley (10 min.)
In 2011, Zubin Mehta celebrated the fiftieth year of his collaboration with the Berliner Philharmoniker, repeating the programme with which he had once made his debut with the orchestra in a concert which is documented in the Digital Concert Hall. Eight years later, in the spring of 2019, the Indian maestro was appointed to the small circle of honorary members of the Philharmoniker. The concurrent concert programme included works by Edgard Varèse and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, plus Peter Eötvös’s percussion concerto Speaking Drums. In this interval feature with concertmaster Noah Bendix-Balgley, Mehta talks about these compositions and his admiration for the Austrian percussionist Martin Grubinger as well as about the highlights of his unique history together with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
