Kirill Petrenko in conversation with Ludwig Quandt (18 min.)
There were four years between Kirill Petrenko’s election as chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker and his inaugural concert on 23 August 2019. Between both events, the relationship between the orchestra and the conductor was consolidated in a series of joint concerts. In this conversation between Petrenko and Ludwig Quandt, the orchestra’s first principal cellist, we learn how much both parties look forward to working together. The conductor talks about his choice of programme for his inaugural concert which included Alban Berg’s Lulu Suite and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and explains that in a conductor’s work, the relentless demand for precision should always be combined with appreciation for his musicians.
